Hurricane Ike

We have electricity now!!!
Thank goodness it was only a strong 2, very close to a small 3 hurricane. We couldn't have handled more than that...the eye wall went right over us. And we knew it when it did! Also, right as the eye wall was passing us, I got over 101 fever. I was on fire and was screaming I felt so bad (scared too). My parents gave me Tylenol, and I haven't had a fever since. Strange, I never had a fever like that without it continuing for a good while.
It has been a long week and it is still going. We stayed in for the Hurricane, we live about an hour and a half from where Ike hit in Galveston. My Grandparents came and stayed with us for a few days before and during the Hurricane. I enjoyed their visit, but things were strange. We had to decorate the house with these boards. I thought they were a little plain, so I decorated them with my colored chalk.

Also, what was strange and this might ramble throughout the blog but you get the point....strange was my Grandparents stayed the night for a few nights in a row, I got to sleep in mom's bed with mom for many nights, there were these very loud winds and rain, I took showers instead of baths, candles lit at night, I was given a flash light to go potty, we didn't have any electricity for days, no TV, all the windows were open, but we were still hot before the cool front came in...so grandaddy made grandma and I a fan out of poster board...

we cooked everything off our cooker in the garage...

all these trees were down everywhere, some even through houses, my trees were just down on the ground,we grocery shopped in the dark after waiting in line outside, there are cars everywhere waiting in long lines for gas, I am drinking powdered milk, no school, we are eating not what we are in the mood to eat, but what is about to spoil the soonest, my aunt Tara gave us ice that she was getting from another friend to keep our food cooler longer...now we have electricity and she doesn't, so we are providing for them now. But, even though we have electricity, we can't buy meats or dairy at the stores. Good thing daddy bought a lot of hurricane food for us before and after the storm.

Grandma and Grandad made it home in Pasadena and their home is fine. A neighbor's shed was in their garden, and their fence was down but that was it. They are waiting on their electricity, but they have a generator.

My mom's new work (Church) was flooded!

Poor Galveston is ruined. Our hearts go out to them and to those that aren't as fortunate as us to have electricity, ice, food, and water tonight.

Good thing I got out of the storm is that I got to spend a lot of time with the family and it really makes you appreciate things more.
