Let's Go Eagles!

This weekend I went to a volleyball tournament with mom and dad. I didn't get to see mom's team play, instead I watched another team for her school. Mom coaches JV B and Varsity B teams, we watched the Varsity A.

I like volleyball! I clapped and cheered, "Let's Go Eagles!" I talk about volleyball a lot now. Here we are at the game.

Tuesday, Dad and I got to see my mom coach volleyball. I watched her coach Varsity B. I had my very own pom poms for the game. I had a lot of fun. When the girls on the team left, I said " Bye, Bye Eagles, Volleyball, Boom!"

My After Ike Boo Boo

Sunday we went to church and they still do not have electricity. It reminded us of how lucky we are to have electricity. There are several people still without.

On our way home from church, I showed mom and dad a boo boo I had just above my wrist. A mosquito got me good. Ike produced a lot of mosquitoes. They are so big they look like horses flying in the air. Usually, my skin gets irritated enough that I need Benadryl and cream. So we started the Benadryl as soon as we got home. By that night, my wrist was really hurting and starting to feel stiff. I cried anytime I moved my wrist.

By morning, it was more swollen and I cried at times when I moved it. I still went off to school with some Benadryl in me, hoping it would get better. By the time mom picked me up from school it was frighteningly HUGE! Don't get mom started on why they didn't call her sooner. My whole hand and wrist was swollen beyond belief, bright shiny red, on fire, and I had a slight fever. Mom rushed me to the doctor and they said that I needed antibiotics in addition to the Benadryl and cream. They said to watch me very closely or it could be something very, very serious.

Luckily, by morning it wasn't worse which felt like a good sign. Then slowly but surely, I am getting much better. It almost looks normal now.

Here are pictures of my hand. The flash on the camera took away a lot of the redness. The pictures don't show it justice, but here are some. My top part of the hand was about 4 times as tall than usual.

Hurricane Ike

We have electricity now!!!
Thank goodness it was only a strong 2, very close to a small 3 hurricane. We couldn't have handled more than that...the eye wall went right over us. And we knew it when it did! Also, right as the eye wall was passing us, I got over 101 fever. I was on fire and was screaming I felt so bad (scared too). My parents gave me Tylenol, and I haven't had a fever since. Strange, I never had a fever like that without it continuing for a good while.
It has been a long week and it is still going. We stayed in for the Hurricane, we live about an hour and a half from where Ike hit in Galveston. My Grandparents came and stayed with us for a few days before and during the Hurricane. I enjoyed their visit, but things were strange. We had to decorate the house with these boards. I thought they were a little plain, so I decorated them with my colored chalk.

Also, what was strange and this might ramble throughout the blog but you get the point....strange was my Grandparents stayed the night for a few nights in a row, I got to sleep in mom's bed with mom for many nights, there were these very loud winds and rain, I took showers instead of baths, candles lit at night, I was given a flash light to go potty, we didn't have any electricity for days, no TV, all the windows were open, but we were still hot before the cool front came in...so grandaddy made grandma and I a fan out of poster board...

we cooked everything off our cooker in the garage...

all these trees were down everywhere, some even through houses, my trees were just down on the ground,we grocery shopped in the dark after waiting in line outside, there are cars everywhere waiting in long lines for gas, I am drinking powdered milk, no school, we are eating not what we are in the mood to eat, but what is about to spoil the soonest, my aunt Tara gave us ice that she was getting from another friend to keep our food cooler longer...now we have electricity and she doesn't, so we are providing for them now. But, even though we have electricity, we can't buy meats or dairy at the stores. Good thing daddy bought a lot of hurricane food for us before and after the storm.

Grandma and Grandad made it home in Pasadena and their home is fine. A neighbor's shed was in their garden, and their fence was down but that was it. They are waiting on their electricity, but they have a generator.

My mom's new work (Church) was flooded!

Poor Galveston is ruined. Our hearts go out to them and to those that aren't as fortunate as us to have electricity, ice, food, and water tonight.

Good thing I got out of the storm is that I got to spend a lot of time with the family and it really makes you appreciate things more.

Mommy Busy

Sorry, I haven't posted a lot lately. Mommy has been extremely busy with her new job. She hasn't had the time to blog about a cool b-day party I went to a couple weeks ago at a Gymnastics center yet or some other things.

Mom has been working easily 60 hours a week with her new job. She has been very busy with her volleyball team(s). Even though I know she misses me a lot, I know she loves being back into volleyball again. Mom told me it would be hard till Halloween on the family. After that, things will calm down and she can pick me up earlier at school. Till then, Daddy is being Mr. Mom and is doing a great job at it. I think he realizes what all mom has had to do the last couple years! : )

Mom had a volleyball tournament this week and she brought home a championship trophy as big as me for her school. Mommy was so happy!!!

Lately, I have been singing "Happy Birthday" a lot! I could sing it all day. Here is a clip of it.

Labor Day Weekend

I stayed with my grandparents this weekend while my parents went to a wedding in Cape Cod, MA. The wedding was a friend of my daddy's in college, Chris. I had a great time with my Grandparents. We went to the mall, got new shoes, got a haircut, went to gymnastics, went swimming at my aunt's, and so much more.

I have learned to jump with both feet forward off of things. I have been working so hard on it, and I have it!

Mom and dad were worried that the Hurricane would hit us while they were gone or on their way back, but everything was okay. Here is the motel they stayed at...yes, a motel on the water. There are no hotels in all of Cape Cod, not the ones we are used to here. Everything is very old, and simple. That is how it keeps its charm. They seemed to like it a lot, very relaxing place. Their room overlooked the water.
The view in the morning...They said that when they flew in, it felt like they went back in time to the beginning of spring in Houston. The sun was crisp, but not hot and there were freshly planted flowers everywhere you looked.
Mommy had her first big lobster. The wedding and reception was here, with a garden wedding. Daddy got to see a few old friends from Texas A &M too.
On their way back to the airport in Boston, they stopped over at Plymouth Rock. Right behind mom's shoulder is the replica of the original Mayflower, the MayFlower II.
Yes, that is the Plymouth Rock - the actual real rock, not a replica (so they say) behind tons of protected glass and scafolding. It is about the size of a big pig.
After Plymouth, mom and dad stopped over in Boston for a beer at Cheers!
Afterwards, they walked around the famous parks there and the begininng of the Freedom Trail. I would have loved the swan boats they had there.
State House...
The runway is right next to the water. Amazing.
from the plane...

Next time, I want to go with them. They said I would next time...when ever that is.
